Atiku Abubakar urges President Tinubu's administration to focus on governance instead of early election speculations. His comments follow Minister Nyesom Wike's dismissive remarks about Atiku’s 2027 presidential bid, stressing the need to address urgent issues like Nigeria’s rising cost of living rather than preempting future political contests.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu and his All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to concentrate on effective governance rather than focusing on early speculations regarding the 2027 presidential election. His statement came in response to comments from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, who dismissed Atiku’s prospects of being the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming election.

Wike, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, criticized Atiku’s potential bid for the 2027 presidential election, claiming that Atiku had no real chance of securing the PDP’s nomination. Wike emphasized that Atiku had been lobbying for another opportunity but questioned his reliability as a candidate after years of political leadership.

In response, Atiku’s spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, reminded Wike of his alleged failed attempt to impose a presidential candidate during the 2019 election and pointed out that Atiku had defeated Wike’s chosen candidate during the 2023 PDP primaries. Shaibu also raised concerns over Wike’s focus on the next election while the country grapples with immediate economic challenges, including rising food costs and inflation.

Shaibu urged Wike to shift his attention from political maneuvering toward addressing the pressing issues Nigerians are facing. “This hunger is becoming unbearable; it’s what we should be addressing, not political maneuvers for 2027,” Shaibu stated.
