Atiku Abubakar has denied rumors of his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling the claims fake news spread by political opponents. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and dismissed the social media post as a smear campaign designed to cause confusion and unrest among his supporters.
Amid swirling rumors of his alleged departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly denied resigning from the party.
In a statement released by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku condemned the report as a calculated smear campaign. The misinformation, which surfaced on a Facebook page identified as “Adamawa Happenings,” quickly circulated across social media, prompting reactions from both the public and party loyalists.
Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, reaffirmed his unwavering allegiance to the party, describing himself as a “steadfast and loyal member.”
“We are compelled to set the record straight,” Ibe said. “Atiku Abubakar has not resigned from the PDP. These rumors are baseless, malicious, and politically motivated.”
The former vice president accused unnamed political actors of orchestrating the falsehood to create division within the PDP and mislead the public. The statement urged Nigerians and Atiku’s supporters to disregard the claims entirely, labeling the post as “fake news” and a “political hatchet job.”
Atiku’s name has remained prominent in opposition politics, with many speculating about his future political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections. His clarification seeks to douse tensions within the party and reassure his political base of his continued presence and commitment to Nigeria’s democratic values.
