Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, lauded President Bola Tinubu's humility and modest lifestyle during the three-day Cabinet Retreat in Abuja. He addressed the controversy surrounding the purchase of a yacht, emphasizing that it was not intended for the President's personal use.
Bagudu expressed that the mischaracterization of the yacht had generated unnecessary controversy, despite 95% of the N2.2 trillion budget being acceptable. He stated that President Tinubu should be credited for his emphasis on critical issues such as security, supporting vulnerable populations, and infrastructure development.
He highlighted that 30% of the supplementary budget was allocated to the defense sector, another 30% for palliatives, including cash transfers and awards totaling N400 billion, and 25% for infrastructure. Bagudu emphasized that these areas collectively accounted for about 85% of the budget.
The Minister underlined the importance of having a well-defined plan and sticking to it, citing studies by experts that show it to be a key differentiator between countries that achieve growth and those that do not. President Tinubu's focus on these critical areas reflects his commitment to addressing pressing national challenges. A
