Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed denies threatening President Tinubu, clarifying his critique of the new tax reforms as a call for fairness and inclusivity. He emphasizes respect for the Presidency and urges dialogue to address socio-economic challenges. Mohammed’s concerns align with those of other northern leaders opposing the reforms' potential impact.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has denied allegations that he threatened President Bola Tinubu, clarifying his remarks on Tinubu’s tax reforms as constructive criticism. The Presidency had described Mohammed's statement, “We will show President Tinubu our true colour,” as a threat and urged him to retract it, labeling it divisive.
In a statement by his media adviser, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed emphasized that his comments were misunderstood. He explained that his concerns were rooted in the potential harm the reforms could cause to northern Nigeria, particularly in revenue generation for essential services. The governor stated he intended to caution against policies perceived as unfair and to advocate for inclusivity.
Mohammed reiterated his respect for the Presidency, asserting that his focus remains on fostering dialogue and addressing socio-economic challenges. He called on the federal government to prioritize collaboration over dismissing criticism.
