The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 16 local government areas in Ondo State's local elections. Results for Owo and Ondo West LGAs were delayed due to ballot paper issues. PDP withdrew, citing concerns over ODIEC’s credibility. Observers await final results to assess the election's overall fairness.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in 16 out of 18 local government areas in the Ondo State local elections conducted by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC). The elections involved 12 political parties, competing for positions of chairman, deputy chairman, and councillors.
Dr. Joseph Aremo, ODIEC Chairman and Chief Returning Officer, announced the results, revealing that APC also secured all councillorship seats in the 16 declared LGAs. Results for Owo and Ondo West LGAs were withheld due to a mix-up involving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) logo on the ballot papers. Elections in these areas were rescheduled for Sunday, with results expected to be announced by 7:00 PM.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) withdrew from the election two days prior, citing a lack of confidence in ODIEC’s ability to conduct a credible process. Despite this, other parties, including the Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), participated.
The election has drawn attention to the electoral process in Ondo State, with observers awaiting the final results to assess the overall impact of the polls.
