Barcelona's Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been granted provisional approval by Spain's sports council to play despite La Liga's wage cap restrictions. The decision allows their participation while the club appeals against La Liga's financial regulations. Both players missed the Supercopa semi-final but are eligible for the final.
Barcelona has been granted temporary permission by Spain's National Sports Council (CSD) to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, enabling them to play until a final decision is made on their appeal against La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Both players, signed during the summer transfer window, were initially registered only for the first half of the season due to Barcelona's failure to meet La Liga's financial fair play requirements.
The CSD's intervention came after La Liga and RFEF rejected the club's requests to register the players, citing missed deadlines and financial constraints. The provisional ruling suspends the cancellation of Olmo and Victor's licenses, keeping them valid until the appeal process is concluded.
La Liga expressed dissatisfaction with the CSD's decision, claiming it was made without their input or the opportunity to contest the appeal. The league plans to analyze the ruling and possibly file counter-appeals.
Despite the resolution, the timing prevented Olmo and Victor from participating in Barcelona's Spanish Supercopa semi-final victory against Athletic Club in Saudi Arabia. However, they are now eligible to feature in Sunday's final against Real Madrid or Mallorca.
Barcelona's financial struggles, which initially hindered their ability to meet wage cap rules, have reportedly been alleviated by the sale of VIP boxes at their under-construction stadium. The club argued that the rule preventing players from re-registering at the same club in the same season is outdated and should not apply.
