Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has harshly criticized the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, calling him a "transactional politician" who shifts his loyalties based on personal interests. This comes after Wike criticized Mohammed’s opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s proposed Tax Reform Bills.
In a statement released by his media team, Mohammed’s spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, condemned Wike’s remarks as unfounded and hypocritical. Gidado pointed out Wike’s political inconsistency, highlighting his transition from a staunch member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), all while still claiming PDP membership.
According to the Bauchi governor’s team, Wike’s actions illustrate a lack of political integrity and suggest a focus on personal gain rather than principles. Gidado further defended Mohammed’s stance on the Tax Reform Bills, arguing that the governor’s opposition is rooted in a commitment to inclusive governance and addressing the needs of the people.
The statement also accused Wike of undermining the PDP, a party that helped launch his political career. Governor Mohammed’s team emphasized that the PDP is the foundation of Wike’s success, but his current behavior is damaging to the party and its values. Mohammed’s leadership in Bauchi State, they claimed, stands as a model of public service and integrity, contrasting with Wike’s opportunistic political tactics.
