In response to media reports of a four-year-old girl's alleged marriage to a 54-year-old man in Akeddei community, Bayelsa State Government has intervened.
The government, deeming the reported marriage illegal and repugnant to justice, equity, and good conscience, summoned the parents, groom, and community leaders.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, along with the Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT), acknowledged a formal complaint from child rights advocacy group DO Foundation. Affirming their commitment to child rights, the government vows to rescue the child and prevent such incidents, emphasizing Bayelsa's stance against child marriage under any guise.
