Victor Osimhen's late header earned Nigeria a 1-1 draw against Benin, securing their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite a sluggish performance, the Super Eagles remained unbeaten under Coach Eguavoen, topping Group D with 11 points, ahead of second-place Benin. Nigeria faces Rwanda next.
The Super Eagles secured their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after drawing 1-1 with Benin in Abidjan. Nigeria's Victor Osimhen scored a crucial equalizer in the 81st minute, ensuring the team finished top of Group D with 11 points, four points ahead of second-place Benin.
Though not their best performance, Nigeria's resilience saw them bounce back after Mohamed Tijani’s 15th-minute goal gave Benin the lead. Osimhen had missed a clear chance earlier in the first half but made up for it with his equalizer.
Nigeria now heads into their final qualifying match against Rwanda, with four points separating Benin in second. Rwanda still has a slim chance of qualifying, depending on the results against Nigeria and Libya.
Coach Augustine Eguavoen's unbeaten run continues as he gears up to wrap up the group stage with a home fixture in Uyo against Rwanda on Monday.
