Three people were killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen while returning from the Jato-Aka Market in Mshen, Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State. The victims—two women, including a petty trader, Andeh Aondover, and a housewife, as well as a motorcycle rider, Boki Tyodzua—were ambushed just a kilometer away from an army camp at Government Secondary School, Anwase.

Eyewitness reports from Igbawua Gandepun, the youth leader of the ward, reveal that the attackers also stole money and goods from the victims before killing them. In protest, local youths brought the bodies of the victims to the military camp, accusing the soldiers of failing to provide adequate protection. Gandepun also noted that farmers in the area have been too afraid to clear their land due to the ongoing violence from herdsmen, with several past victims’ bodies still missing.

This incident highlights the continued insecurity faced by the residents of Benue State, particularly in rural areas where herders and farmers are often in conflict. The community has been left in fear as such attacks seem to be escalating with little to no intervention from security forces.
