Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has made headlines with his comments regarding the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new manager of Manchester United. Ahead of a crucial Champions League match against Amorim’s former club, Sporting Lisbon, Silva expressed his mixed feelings about his compatriot's upcoming role.
In a pre-match press conference, Silva acknowledged Amorim’s significant achievements at Sporting, where he revitalized the team after a lengthy period without a league title. "Before he arrived, Sporting didn’t win the league for nearly 20 years, but since he’s been there, they’ve all been heading in the same direction," Silva noted, praising the synergy between Amorim, the club president, and the sporting director.
Silva commended Amorim’s tactical acumen and his ability to prepare competitive teams, stating, "Sporting is a big machine right now. They’ve been flying in the Portuguese league, and it’s going to be very tough to beat them."
However, when it came to Amorim's future at Manchester United, Silva did not hold back his feelings. He stated, "I don’t wish him well, but he deserves to be in one of the best clubs in the world right now because of the work he has done for the last few years." Despite acknowledging Amorim’s talent, Silva made it clear that as a rival, he wouldn’t extend any good wishes for his success at United.
