EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has voiced concern over the increasing number of young Nigerian males engaging in internet fraud, citing financial desperation, peer pressure, and thrill-seeking as key drivers.

  • Olukoyede says cybercrime damages youths’ mental health and ruins prospects.
  • EFCC to launch Cybercrime Research Centre to promote ethical digital innovation.
  • NDLEA and the Code of Conduct Tribunal urge parents to raise responsible, resilient male children.

Speaking on behalf of the EFCC, Aisha Mohammed highlighted how many boys fall into cybercrime due to quick-money fantasies. Officials stressed the mental toll, including anxiety and trauma, on those who engage in fraud. Parents were urged to invest time and discipline in raising boys with sound values.

With plans for a Cybercrime Research Centre, EFCC hopes to steer young Nigerians toward meaningful digital careers. But will these initiatives be enough to shift mindsets already shaped by poverty and peer influence?
