President Joe Biden has issued an apology to prominent Muslim-American leaders following his public questioning of the reported death toll in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, during a gathering with five Muslim American leaders.
The meeting, initially scheduled for 30 minutes, extended over an hour, during which Biden expressed disappointment in himself and vowed to "do better." This apology comes after Biden openly questioned the accuracy of casualty figures from Gaza, citing concerns about Hamas' track record.
The US president faced criticism domestically for pressuring Israel to minimize civilian casualties, and the Muslim-American leaders urged him to demonstrate more empathy for the Palestinians. The Gaza conflict has resulted in over 14,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 1,200 Israeli fatalities, with calls for a more nuanced approach to the humanitarian crisis.
