Ghana has officially failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw against Angola. Despite leading early, Ghana’s inability to secure a win in the qualifiers means they are mathematically eliminated, finishing with just three points. Their final match will be against Niger.
Ghana’s disappointing campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has officially come to an end after a 1-1 draw against Angola at the November 11th Stadium in Luanda. This result sealed their elimination from the competition, leaving them with no chance to qualify, even with one game remaining.
The Black Stars, despite needing a win to keep their hopes alive, took the lead early in the match with a stunning freekick from captain Jordan Ayew. However, Angola equalized in the second half through a goal from Zini. With this draw, Ghana's hopes of advancing were mathematically crushed as they failed to catch up to Sudan in the standings, despite Sudan’s loss to Niger.
Ghana’s performance in the qualifying stages has been dismal, earning just three points from five games, which included three draws and two defeats. They have failed to win a single match in the group, with a 1-0 home loss to Angola, followed by draws against Niger and Sudan. A further blow came with a 2-0 loss to Sudan, and the team’s elimination was confirmed with the latest draw against Angola.
The Black Stars’ poor showing in this campaign follows their group-stage exit from the 2023 AFCON, marking a period of underachievement for one of Africa’s most successful teams. Ghana will now aim to avoid finishing last in their group when they face Niger in their final qualifying match.
