An investigative panel in Nigeria has cleared crossdresser Bobrisky of claims she slept outside prison during her six-month sentence for currency abuse. The report, ordered by the Minister of Interior, confirmed she served her sentence in compliance with regulations, debunking allegations of bribery and preferential treatment.

An investigative panel established by the Nigerian government has concluded that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, did not sleep outside the prison during his six-month sentence for currency abuse. Released on August 5, Bobrisky had been sentenced on April 12, following a viral video in which an activist claimed she had bribed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials to drop money laundering charges against her.

The claims of bribery and preferential treatment led to an investigation ordered by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior. In the video, Bobrisky allegedly suggested that a “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), helped her avoid serving time in a conventional prison setting.

On September 30, the panel was formed to investigate alleged corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service. The panel, chaired by Magdalena Ajani, presented its findings, stating that there was no evidence supporting claims that Bobrisky resided outside the prison during her incarceration, which lasted from April 12 to August 5.

Uju Agomoh, the Executive Director of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), emphasized that the investigation confirmed the former convict served her sentence by standard procedures, without any undue privileges or breaches of protocol.

This conclusion seeks to address the public’s concerns regarding alleged corruption within the Nigerian correctional system.
