FIJ reveals that the Nigerian celebrity paid N15 million for an early release, sparking investigations into corruption in Nigeria’s prison system. VIP treatment and bribery allegations have fueled public outrage.

Nigerian transgender celebrity, Bobrisky, reportedly spent only three weeks in Kirikiri Prison, despite being sentenced to six months for naira abuse in April, according to a report by FIJ. The report, which has ignited discussions on corruption in the Nigerian prison system, revealed that Bobrisky, whose real name is Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, received VIP treatment during her short stay and was secretly released early.

A prison official claimed that Bobrisky paid N15 million to secure her release and have charges of money laundering dropped by the EFCC. Following the revelation, Nigeria's Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered an investigation into bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The controversy resurfaced after social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released a recorded conversation in which Bobrisky allegedly admitted to serving her term outside the prison. Despite being officially released in August, the report suggests that Bobrisky had been living outside prison much earlier. This incident has sparked outrage and concern about the influence of wealth and corruption in Nigeria's justice system.
