Bobrisky has filed a lawsuit against the EFCC and National Assembly, claiming a violation of her rights following bribery allegations. She seeks N1.2 billion in damages for trauma and unlawful actions. The lawsuit highlights concerns over corruption and human rights abuses by Nigerian security agencies.
Bobrisky, a Nigerian social media celebrity, has filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly, claiming a violation of her fundamental rights. The lawsuit stems from allegations made by activist VeryDarkMan, who shared an audio recording suggesting Bobrisky paid EFCC officials to dismiss money laundering charges against her.
Despite Bobrisky denying the authenticity of the recording, the EFCC initiated an investigation, leading to her brief arrest in October and re-arrest in November. Bobrisky claims the EFCC failed to verify the recording before taking action, leading to public ridicule, threats, and privacy invasions.
In her lawsuit, Bobrisky demands N200 million in damages from the EFCC for "psychotic trauma" and N1 billion from the National Assembly for violating her right to a fair hearing. She also alleges that her rights to privacy, freedom of movement, and protection from discrimination were disregarded.
Bobrisky also criticized the EFCC and security agencies for continuing to violate her rights despite a court order prohibiting their actions. She accuses them of operating "above the law," and causing harm to her health. The case has drawn attention to issues of human rights violations and abuse of power in Nigeria's law enforcement agencies.
