PDP chieftain Bode George urges Atiku Abubakar to abandon his 2027 presidential ambitions, citing his age and repeated attempts since 1993. George calls for unity within the PDP, condemning internal divisions and conflicts. He also advises Nyesom Wike to reconcile with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to strengthen party cohesion.
Chief Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to relinquish his aspirations for the presidency in 2027. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, George emphasized that Atiku, who will be 81 by then and has been contesting since 1993, should embrace his role as an elder statesman.
“It's time to act like an elder,” George appealed, urging Atiku to prioritize posterity over personal ambition. He stressed the need for unity within the PDP, lamenting that internal conflicts fueled by personal interests have weakened the party.
George expressed disappointment with members who, instead of opposing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have fostered divisions within the PDP. “Elders of the party should call these individuals to order. National interest must take precedence over personal gains,” he asserted.
He also addressed the rift between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. George advised Wike to let go of past grievances and work towards party cohesion. “Wike is my political son, and I urge him to stop undermining Fubara,” he said, questioning the motives behind ongoing tensions in Rivers State.
