Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has announced a petrol subsidy for farmers in Boko Haram-affected areas, reducing costs from N1,200 to N600 per litre. The initiative, launched alongside the distribution of farm inputs to over 5,000 farmers, aims to boost agriculture, rebuild livelihoods, and support community resettlement efforts.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has introduced a petrol subsidy for farmers in areas impacted by Boko Haram insurgency. Announcing the initiative in Bama town, Zulum highlighted that the subsidy would ease financial burdens on farmers by reducing petrol costs from N1,200 to N600 per litre.

The announcement was made during the distribution of agricultural supplies to over 5,000 displaced farmers, as part of efforts to revive farming activities and improve food security. Zulum explained that high fuel costs were hindering irrigation farming and emphasized the importance of affordable resources to enhance productivity.

Farmers received an array of inputs, including 2,000 bags of NPK fertilizer, 1,000 water pumps, and 620 gasoline pumps, along with other essential materials such as solar water pumps, sprayers, hoses, and pesticides. Additionally, the state government has constructed over 100 tube wells for irrigation and approved the construction of 250 more.

Zulum cited the success of a similar initiative in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area, which significantly boosted food production. He assured farmers of swift delivery of subsidized petrol through collaboration with relevant agencies.

During his visit, Zulum also inspected reconstruction projects in Darajama and Goniri villages, expressing satisfaction with the progress. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding communities and warned against any attempts to undermine resettlement efforts.
