Nigerian footballer Brown Ideye has joined Enyimba FC for the 2024/25 season. The 2013 AFCON winner, formerly with Al Yarmouk, aims to strengthen Enyimba’s attack as they compete in both the NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup. This marks his return to Nigeria’s top flight after 17 years.
Nigerian striker Brown Ideye, a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, has signed with Enyimba FC until the end of the 2024/25 season. The announcement was confirmed by Enyimba's Sporting Director and former international, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who emphasized that the club hopes Ideye’s experience will strengthen their attacking line as they compete in both domestic and continental competitions.
At 36 years old, Ideye has been without a club since his time at Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022. His return to the Nigerian top flight marks a significant comeback to the domestic scene, having last played in the Nigerian league with Ocean Boys in 2006. Ideye had been in talks to join Rivers United in October, but the move fell through.
Enyimba will soon face critical fixtures, including a rescheduled NPFL match against Sunshine Stars and a crucial CAF Confederation Cup game against Black Bulls in Mozambique. The club hopes that the addition of Ideye will provide the necessary boost to help them perform well in both competitions. Ideye's experience, coupled with his previous success in Nigerian football, is expected to make a significant impact on the team as they push for success this season.
