Niger Flood Disaster (1).webp
Four days after a flood ripped through Mokwa, Niger State, residents are still searching for missing relatives. At least 151 people are confirmed dead, but eyewitnesses say the toll may be higher. Over 3,000 have been displaced, and many victims remain buried under debris.
  • Death toll: Officially 151, but locals say 200+ were buried on Friday alone.
  • Missing persons: Over 100 still unaccounted for.
  • Damage: 265 houses destroyed, 3,018 people displaced.
  • Location: Tiffin Maza and Unguwan Hausawa in Mokwa LGA.
Residents describe waking to rushing floodwaters that collapsed homes and swept away families. One man lost his entire family. Many are combing through debris for bodies. The tragedy has also blocked key routes like the Tatabu Bridge, stranding travellers for hours.

Federal and state authorities have promised relief materials and drainage construction. The President has ordered full mobilisation of federal support. But survivors say what they need now is rescue, recovery, and reassurance.
