Presidential adviser Daniel Bwala has called Peter Obi a "failed politician," claiming he lacks democratic credentials. The remark follows Obi’s statement that Nigeria’s democracy has collapsed. The clash highlights growing political tensions as opposition voices challenge the government’s record, sparking widespread reactions from supporters and analysts.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, has strongly criticized Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, labeling him a "failed politician" who lacks an understanding of democracy.
Bwala’s remarks follow Obi’s statement at an event in Abuja, where the former Anambra governor lamented that Nigeria’s democracy had deteriorated since the country’s return to civilian rule in 1999. He suggested that the progress made over the years had been reversed, leaving the nation in political decline.
Reacting via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bwala dismissed Obi’s claims, arguing that he has no history of democratic activism. He further alleged that during times when democracy was being fought for in Nigeria, Obi was focused on business instead.
"It’s amusing how failed politicians try to redefine democracy," Bwala wrote. "Peter Obi says democracy has collapsed, but does he even understand what it means? While others were fighting for democracy, he was occupied with trading. His record shows no engagement in democratic struggles from his student years to today. Instead, he thrives on spreading divisive rhetoric."
Obi’s remarks about Nigeria’s democracy have sparked debates among political observers, with some agreeing with his concerns, while others, like Bwala, view his comments as baseless and politically motivated.
