Victor Boniface has expressed disappointment over his exclusion from the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year shortlist despite a remarkable season. While acknowledging the snub, he remains focused on improving his game. Boniface tipped Ademola Lookman as a deserving winner, emphasizing that personal growth is his primary goal.

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has voiced his disappointment at being excluded from the shortlist for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, despite a stellar season in Germany.

The CAF shortlist, revealed in October, includes Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong among the nominees but omits Boniface and fellow Nigerian star Victor Osimhen. The finalists also feature players like Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Algeria’s Amine Gouiri, and Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra.

In a video shared by sports journalist Pooja on social media, Boniface shared his reaction: “I’m not sad but disappointed. I had an amazing season, and for me not to be there... maybe the award is for players in AFCON. But if it’s for African Player of the Year, I believe I had a great season.”

While acknowledging his frustration, Boniface emphasized that personal accolades are not his focus. “I don’t need to prove to anybody; I don’t care about awards. My priority is improving and doing more for myself,” he stated.

When asked to predict the winner, Boniface backed Ademola Lookman, praising his consistent performance.

The Nigerian forward remains a standout performer this season and continues to focus on delivering top-notch performances for his club and country. Despite the setback, Boniface’s determination underscores his ambition to excel on and off the field.

This year's CAF Awards ceremony promises to spotlight Africa’s finest talents, with anticipation building as the final winner is unveiled.
