CAF has canceled the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier match between Nigeria and Libya due to the Super Eagles’ distressing experience at the Libya airport. After facing over 14 hours of mistreatment, the team returned home, prompting CAF to investigate the incident and its implications for African football.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the removal of the scheduled second-leg match between Nigeria and Libya for the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier, which was set to take place on October 15, 2024. This decision follows a distressing experience faced by the Super Eagles at the Libya airport, where they reportedly endured over 14 hours of mistreatment.

In the first leg, held at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, the Super Eagles managed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Libya. However, the team's ordeal at the airport led officials and players to decide against continuing their trip and to return home.

CAF has initiated an investigation into these troubling circumstances. Meanwhile, the Libya Football Federation has accused Nigeria of sabotage and is considering pursuing legal action against them.
