The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Libya $50,000 and ordered two home matches behind closed doors for misconduct after Libyan police allegedly assaulted the Benin Republic national team following a 2025 AFCON qualifier. This sanction follows a similar punishment for mistreating Nigeria’s Super Eagles earlier this year.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed sanctions on Libya following the alleged assault of the Benin Republic national team by Libyan police during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. CAF fined the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) $50,000 and ordered two home games to be played behind closed doors. The incident occurred after the goalless match on November 18, 2024, which secured Benin's qualification for the AFCON while Libya failed to qualify.

Benin's head coach, Gernot Rohr, reported that Libyan police assaulted him and his players with batons after the match. Videos emerged showing Benin players receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the altercation, which reportedly took place in the dressing room. CAF's disciplinary board found Libya guilty of misconduct, violating its disciplinary code for the actions of both officials and supporters.
