Canadian woman Adrienne Munju was arrested in Lagos for trafficking 35.20 kg of synthetic cannabis to fund her Master’s degree. The NDLEA reported multiple drug seizures across Nigeria, including opioids and more cannabis, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
A 41-year-old Canadian woman named Adrienne Munju was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for importing a significant quantity of synthetic cannabis known as "Canadian Loud." The arrest occurred on October 3, 2024, as she arrived on a KLM flight from Canada.
During the examination of her luggage, authorities discovered 74 parcels of the drug, totaling 35.20 kilograms. Munju, who was visiting Nigeria for the first time, reportedly stated that she was lured into trafficking the drugs via an online platform, with the promise of receiving 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery. She claimed her motivation was to fund her Master’s degree studies in Canada.
In addition to Munju's case, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported multiple drug seizures. On October 2 and 3, they recovered over 13 million opioid pills and large quantities of codeine-based cough syrup at Port Harcourt ports. At the Tin Can Seaport in Lagos, an additional 50 kilograms of the same synthetic cannabis strain were intercepted.
The NDLEA continues to investigate these cases, with several suspects already detained in connection to the ongoing drug trafficking operations across the country.
