Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles secured a crucial goalless draw against Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the first leg of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. The match showcased resilience and tactical discipline from the Nigerian team, coached by Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars.
The home-based Eagles demonstrated defensive solidity, led by goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani and captain Nduka Junior, while Ghana struggled to convert their attacking efforts into goals. Despite dominating possession and creating opportunities, the Black Galaxies were unable to breach Nigeria’s determined backline.
Nigeria came close to snatching a win in the second half when Adamu Abubakar’s powerful strike rattled the goalpost, leaving Ghana relieved to escape with a draw. Coach Ogunmodede praised his team’s bravery and composure, emphasizing their readiness to secure a win in the decisive second leg.
“We expected a tough match from Ghana, but we were prepared and delivered a positive result,” Ogunmodede remarked post-match. “Nigeria will go for the win in the return leg.”
The second leg is scheduled for Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. A victory will see Nigeria qualify for the CHAN tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
