The #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano turned violent, with demonstrators looting the State High Court, destroying case files, and vandalizing vehicles. The protest spread to the Kano Government House, where demands were made. Governor Abba Yusuf condemned the violence and called for peaceful demonstrations.

On August 2, 2024, the #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano State took a violent turn, resulting in significant damage at the State High Court located at the Audu Bako State Secretariat. Demonstrators breached the court’s premises, looting essential documents and records, some dating back to 1963.

Protesters not only stole money and firearms kept as evidence but also vandalized official and private vehicles. The court's offices were extensively damaged, with case files and exhibits, including seized guns, scattered and destroyed. An unnamed senior court official disclosed that the loss includes valuable historical documents and case files crucial for ongoing and past legal proceedings.

The violence extended beyond the court premises as protesters set up bonfires on BUK Road, obstructing traffic and creating chaos. They also looted private and government stores in the area, targeting food items. The protest eventually moved to the Kano Government House, where demonstrators presented their demands to Governor Abba Yusuf.

Governor Yusuf, who had previously supported the protest in a town hall meeting, urged the protesters to remain peaceful and submit their grievances through proper channels. Despite acknowledging the hardships caused by rising fuel and electricity prices, he condemned the violence and destruction witnessed during the protest.

The Kano court has since initiated a committee to assess and report the full extent of the damage, aiming to restore order and address the significant disruptions caused by the protest.
