Chiamaka Nnadozie, Nigeria’s top goalkeeper, has been shortlisted as one of the five finalists for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the list on Wednesday, highlighting her remarkable achievements over the past year.
Nnadozie is the sole Nigerian to make the final cut, as Raheedat Ajibade, previously listed among the top 10 nominees, did not advance. Joining Nnadozie in the final lineup are Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy. This year’s award promises a new winner, ending Asisat Oshoala’s dominant streak since 2018. Oshoala, a six-time recipient, had clinched the last three editions.
In addition to her Player of the Year nomination, Nnadozie has been recognized as a finalist for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, which she won in 2023. At just 23 years old, she continues to solidify her reputation as one of Africa’s premier football talents.
The Falconets’ Chiamaka Okuchukwu is among the contenders for the Best Young Player award, showcasing Nigeria’s rising stars. For Coach of the Year, Chris Danjuma of the Falconets made the shortlist, surpassing compatriots Bankole Olowookere and Moses Adukwu.
The Super Falcons are also vying for the National Team of the Year, while Edo Queens are in contention for the Club of the Year category.
