The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 10-year-old boy for allegedly strangling his 10-year-old friend to death during a football match.
According to the command’s public relations officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred in the Ejigbo area.
The father of the deceased reported the case to the police, stating that his son, Israel Ogunleye, had an altercation with another boy, whose identity is withheld.
The report alleges that the suspect grabbed Israel by the neck and strangled him until he died. Upon receiving the report, detectives visited the scene, documented the area and the deceased's body, which was later confirmed dead at the General Hospital, Isolo.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
The tragic incident has shocked the community, raising concerns about the safety of children during sports activities and the need for conflict resolution mechanisms among youngsters.
