In a strategic move signalling internal reconciliation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, reaffirming the lingering influence of Nyesom Wike’s bloc within the party’s top hierarchy.
  • Acting PDP Chairman Amb. Iliya Damagum announced the decision at a media briefing in Abuja.
  • The decision followed consultations with key leaders, including Gov. Bala Mohammed and Bukola Saraki.
  • A planned NEC meeting was cancelled and replaced with an expanded Caucus set for June 30.
  • INEC had earlier noted it wasn’t notified about changes to the party’s leadership structure.

Anyanwu’s return, while framed as administrative, carries deeper meaning, an olive branch extended to stabilise PDP’s fractured leadership. It’s a signal that loyalties tied to Wike still hold political weight despite national tensions between power blocs. But while some see this as a step toward unity, others may interpret it as strategic appeasement with 2027 in view.

The PDP is quietly reorganising. And in Nigerian politics, every reinstatement is a message. With Wike’s ally back in the fold, the party is trying to manage both its power dynamics and its public image ahead of the next election cycle.
