The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, labeling advocates, including Peter Obi, as terrorist sympathizers. The group accuses IPOB of violence, urges the government to prosecute Kanu, and warns against political alliances that support separatist movements, emphasizing threats to national security.

According to Sahara Reporters, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has criticized calls for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a statement, CNG accused IPOB of orchestrating violent attacks on security personnel, government institutions, and civilians, leading to significant casualties and destruction.

The group specifically condemned former presidential candidate Peter Obi and other Igbo leaders advocating for Kanu’s freedom, labeling their actions as a disregard for national security. CNG argued that Kanu’s rhetoric incites violence and undermines Nigeria’s stability, urging the government to resist any pressure for his release.

Furthermore, the coalition accused IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), of being responsible for the deaths of security officers and the destruction of public infrastructure. They also criticized Kanu’s recent courtroom behavior, alleging he disrespected the judiciary and obstructed legal proceedings.

CNG warned northern voters against supporting politicians aligned with IPOB, asserting that such alliances ignore the suffering caused by separatist movements. The group reiterated its demand for international intervention to facilitate a peaceful separation of the South-East from Nigeria, arguing that IPOB’s continued agitation threatens national unity.

They called for strict legal action against Kanu and insisted that any Igbo leader pleading for his release should be considered complicit. CNG emphasized that justice must be served to uphold the rule of law and maintain peace, stating that Kanu’s release without due process would embolden separatist movements and further destabilize the country.
