The Nigerian Army has officially dismissed rumors regarding the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, following a viral social media post by a journalist claiming he passed away due to stage three cancer. The Army labeled these reports as fake news and urged the public to refrain from spreading false information.

However, sources within the Army have confirmed that while Lagbaja is not deceased, he is currently critically ill and undergoing treatment abroad. One source emphasized the importance of prayer during this difficult time rather than circulating unverified rumors. Meanwhile, attempts to contact the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu has gone unanswered as his phone was switched off.

In a related development, the Nigerian Army retired 15 senior generals from the Artillery Corps during a ceremony at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kaduna. This group included 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals, who reflected on their fulfilling military careers.
