Coca-Cola Nigeria has responded to the FCCPC's warning, asserting that its packaging meets national regulations and provides clear product information. The FCCPC had accused Coca-Cola of misleading marketing practices concerning their "Original Taste" and "Original Taste, Less Sugar" variants. Coca-Cola is committed to transparency and compliance.
Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited has responded to recent allegations from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), asserting that its packaging complies with national regulatory standards. On August 1, the FCCPC accused Coca-Cola and the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) of using misleading marketing tactics by labeling their “Original Taste, Less Sugar” variant as equivalent to the “Original Taste” variant, which the commission deemed deceptive.
The FCCPC mandated that Coca-Cola and NBC rectify their packaging to clearly distinguish between the two variants, ensuring that labels and descriptions meet their approval. Additionally, the companies will be monitored for compliance over the next 24 months.
In a rebuttal issued on August 2, Coca-Cola emphasized its adherence to regulatory requirements, stating that its packaging offers clear and accessible nutritional information. The company reiterated its dedication to consumer transparency and expressed a desire to resolve the matter amicably. Coca-Cola's statement highlighted its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and working collaboratively with regulatory authorities to address any concerns.
Coca-Cola Nigeria affirmed its compliance with all relevant regulations and is eager to resolve the issue. The company aims to close the discussion with the FCCPC and continues to prioritize consumer protection and transparency in its operations.
This response comes amid increased scrutiny of marketing practices, with regulatory bodies seeking to ensure that consumers receive accurate information about product formulations.
