President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to switch from petrol, priced at N1,000 per litre, to compressed natural gas (CNG), costing N200 per cubic meter. He praised NIPCO’s efforts in promoting CNG adoption and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding CNG infrastructure for cleaner, more affordable energy.
In a recent statement, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu encouraged citizens to opt for compressed natural gas (CNG) as a more affordable alternative to petrol, now priced at N1,000 per litre. Speaking during a meeting with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted that CNG costs just N200 per standard cubic meter, making it a more economical option for Nigerians.
President Tinubu commended NIPCO's efforts in driving the adoption of CNG, particularly through its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). He emphasized the significant savings consumers can achieve by switching to CNG and the environmental benefits of using a cleaner fuel. The president lauded the "Switch to CNG" campaign, which has raised awareness and provided affordable conversion kits for vehicles even before the initiative's official launch.
He further mentioned that his administration is committed to expanding Nigeria’s CNG infrastructure and fostering private-sector investments to enhance the country’s energy efficiency. The government has also introduced incentives, allowing commercial motorists to convert their vehicles from petrol to CNG at no cost, aiming to reduce the nation’s reliance on expensive petrol imports.
Ramesh Kasangra, NIPCO’s director, thanked President Tinubu for his support and reiterated the company's readiness to invest in making CNG more accessible nationwide.
