Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, recently reported a significant nationwide reduction in crime rates, attributing this to the effective strategies implemented by the police force. Speaking at a meeting with Commissioners of Police in Abuja, Egbetokun revealed that major crimes had decreased significantly, with 416 incidents recorded last month, down from 734 in May and 530 in June. He commended the police personnel for their dedication and hard work, which he credited for the improved security situation.
"The commitment and passion of our officers have produced remarkable results, leading to greater internal security stability," Egbetokun stated. In the past month, the police arrested 1,284 suspects, recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, 107 vehicles, and rescued 97 kidnapped individuals.
In addressing the issue of oil theft, Egbetokun highlighted the reorganization of the IGP Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Corporate. This unit has successfully intercepted stolen goods and arrested numerous suspects, with many cases already progressing through the courts and others still under investigation.
Egbetokun underscored the importance of public cooperation and inter-agency collaboration in achieving these outcomes. "The successes we have seen are due to the professionalism and dedication of our officers, as well as the vital support from the community and other security agencies," he noted.
These positive developments demonstrate the effectiveness of strategic policing and community involvement in enhancing national security in Nigeria.
