The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given its nod to the implementation of the Steve Oronsaye panel's recommendations on the restructuring and rationalization of federal agencies, parastatals, and commissions.
The move, aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing the cost of governance, involves the merging, subsuming, and scrapping of agencies with similar functions. An eight-man committee, led by key government officials, has been formed with a 12-week deadline to ensure legislative amendments and administrative restructuring are efficiently executed.
The comprehensive list of affected agencies spans scrapping, merging, subsuming, and relocation, signaling a significant transformation in the federal government's organizational landscape.
Agencies to be Scrapped:
- Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (Functions transferred to the Federal Ministry of Finance).
- National Senior Secondary Education Commission (Functions transferred to the Department of Basic and Secondary Education in the Federal Ministry of Education).
- National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) with the Centre for Disease Control in the Federal Ministry of Health.
- National Emergency Agency (NEMA) with National Commission for Refugee, Migration, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
- Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) with Directorate of Technical Aid (DTAC) (Function as a department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
- Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) with Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE).
- Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) with Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
- National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) with National Centre for Agriculture Mechanization (NCAM) and Project Development Institute (PRODA).
