In a shocking turn of events, hoodlums forcefully entered a government storage facility in Gwagwa town, FCT, on Sunday, seizing stored food items and causing widespread unrest.

Hoodlums brazenly breached a government storage facility in Gwagwa town, FCT, targeting stored food items in a spree that unfolded on Sunday.

The daring act, which commenced around 7 am, witnessed a surge of youths breaking into the warehouse located near Tasha area, looting bags of maize and grain.

Residents recount that the looting persisted unchecked until 9 am, contributing to a gridlock on the Gwagwa-Karmo road, impacting routes leading to Dei-Dei and Jabi. Some individuals from neighboring Jiwa and Karmo joined in the looting, escalating the situation.

Witness Jaafar Aminu reported leaving the scene with injuries, emphasizing the chaotic nature of the incident. Another resident, Christopher Agbo, highlighted the ruthless approach of the looters, even dismantling protectors meant to secure the warehouse.

Disturbingly, this isn't the first time the warehouse has fallen victim to looting, as a similar incident occurred during the Covid-19 lockdown, resulting in the theft of grain bags and intervention equipment.

Following the recent raid, the hoodlums redirected their efforts toward Idu Industrial Estate, an area housing both private and government-owned warehouses. Alarmingly, security personnel were notably absent during the reported incidents.

Despite the absence of security forces on-site, FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, assured that the police were actively working to bring the situation under control.

This unsettling episode raises concerns about the efficacy of security measures and the vulnerability of government facilities to repeated attacks. Authorities are urged to address the root causes and fortify security to prevent further acts of lawlessness.

The situation remains fluid, and updates on police interventions and potential repercussions are awaited. The government must grapple with the aftermath of this security breach, evaluating its impact on public safety and trust.
