The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State intensified following Saturday's primary election, leading to the emergence of three candidates vying for the party's ticket in the gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Anamero Sunday Dekeri, initially declared the winner of the primary, joins Honourable Dennis Idahosa and Senator Monday Okpebholo, who were earlier announced as candidates by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and Returning Officer Ugboaja Stanley Uzoamaka, respectively. Conflicting reports from Uzodinma and Uzoamaka regarding the winners further complicate the situation.
Mr Ojo Babatunde, spokesman of the local government returning officers, later declares Dekeri the winner with 25,384 votes, sparking controversy. Dekeri, in his acceptance speech, emphasizes party unity and extends an olive branch to the other aspirants, calling for collaboration to challenge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The unfolding drama underscores the complexity of APC's internal dynamics as the Edo gubernatorial race gains momentum.
