A couple narrowly escaped death after a container fell on their Lexus Jeep near the Toyota bus stop on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos, on Wednesday evening. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reported that the accident occurred around 6:35 PM following a distress call.
The incident involved a Mack trailer carrying two 20-foot containers, one of which accidentally landed on the rear side of the moving Lexus vehicle. Sympathizers initially assisted the victims before firefighters arrived to rescue them from the wreckage.
The victims, a 45-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman emerged unhurt but were provided trauma therapy to ensure their well-being. The trailer driver also escaped without injuries.
Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, praised the quick response of emergency teams, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Nigeria Police. These agencies worked together to clear the accident scene, restore traffic flow, and conclude the operations.
This incident highlights the persistent dangers posed by improperly secured containers on Lagos roads, raising concerns about road safety and enforcement of regulations.
