Court grants N10m bail to Olamide Thomas, charged with threatening Seyi Tinubu, Kayode Egbetokun, and Muyiwa Adejobi on social media. Justice Emeka Nwite ruled on her bail after reviewing the case, and the trial is adjourned until February 18, 2025.
A Federal High Court in Abuja granted Olamide Thomas bail on January 6, 2025, following charges of threatening high-profile individuals on social media. Thomas, who allegedly made death threats against Seyi Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, was granted bail in the amount of N10 million. The bail was granted with the condition of one surety, also with a N10 million bond.
Justice Emeka Nwite, in delivering the ruling, noted that there was no substantial evidence suggesting that Thomas would attempt to flee or disrupt her trial. The judge also set specific conditions for the surety, including providing a three-year tax clearance certificate, an affidavit of means, and evidence of residence within the court's jurisdiction. The surety will also be required to submit two recent passport photographs of both the defendant and themselves.
The charges, filed in December 2024, allege that Thomas transmitted threatening messages on social media, including a video where she threatened the lives of Seyi Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police. The prosecution asserts that these threats caused the victims to fear for their safety. Thomas was arrested and remanded in custody but has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case has been adjourned to February 18, 2025, for trial.
