The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a N500 million bail to Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, in connection with an alleged N80 billion money laundering case. Bello, who faces 19 charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
During the bail hearing, Bello's counsel assured the court that the former governor, who served two terms in office, would always attend court proceedings. The court set the bail conditions, requiring two sureties with landed property in the court’s jurisdiction and the submission of his international passport. Bello will remain in Kuje Prison until the bail conditions are met. The case has been adjourned to February 24, 2025, for further proceedings.
