The Court of Appeal in Abuja solidified Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia's position as the legitimately elected governor of Benue State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The three-member panel of justices, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the appeal filed by Mr. Titus Uba of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the outcome of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
The court upheld the judgment of the Benue State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, emphasizing that Uba's grounds for appeal not only delved into pre-election issues but also touched on criminal elements.
The court highlighted the criminal nature of forgery allegations against the Deputy Governor, Mr. Samuel Ode, stating that such claims needed to be proven beyond reasonable doubt. Ultimately, the court concluded that the appellants failed to meet the burden of proof required by the law, effectively resolving all raised issues against them.
