The Labour Party's leadership dispute took a new turn as the Court of Appeal in Abuja confirmed Julius Abure as the party's Chairman, overturning a prior decision by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
The FCT High Court had previously restrained Abure and two others from holding national offices within the party, alleging the forgery of national documents. In a judgment delivered by Justice Hamma Barka, the Appellate Court criticized the high court's assumption of jurisdiction on the matter. Not only did the Appellate Court set aside the restraining order, but it also imposed a One million Naira fine on Lamidi Apapa, the opposing party.
This legal development solidifies Abure's position and introduces a fresh chapter to the longstanding legal conflict within the Labour Party.
