On Friday, the Court of Appeal, Lagos, affirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's victory in the Delta State governorship election held on March 18. The court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State, stating that the appeal lacked merit.
This decision follows the earlier ruling of the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, which had upheld Oborevwori's victory on September 29. Omo-Agege, the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, had contested the tribunal's decision, seeking to be declared the winner of the poll. However, the Court of Appeal upheld Oborevwori's election and affirmed the judgment of the lower tribunal. Additionally, the appellate court dismissed appeals by Kenneth Gbaji of the Social Democratic Party and the Labour Party, upholding the election results in favor of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and APC
