An Ikeja High Court has adjourned the defamation case filed by Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Falz, against social media personality VeryDarkMan to January 23, 2025. Legal representatives presented motions and documents, leading to the postponement. Both parties face administrative and procedural disagreements.

An Ikeja High Court has postponed the defamation lawsuit filed by prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, musician Falz (Folarin), against popular social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) to January 23, 2025. The case was heard on Thursday, with Falana’s counsel, Mr. Muiz Banire (SAN), notifying the court that the claimants had completed the necessary filings. However, the court raised an issue with the process, noting that the originating documents were not present in the court's file.

Banire requested the adjournment to file the required administrative documents. Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan's counsel, Mr. Marvin Omorogbe, pointed out the absence of a valid writ of summons before the court, suggesting the lawsuit should be struck out on these grounds. He questioned how the registry could process any further actions with such discrepancies in the documentation. Omorogbe also pointed to a motion filed earlier in the case, which he argued was part of an attempt to appeal the preemptive remedy proceedings, asserting that the claimants had acknowledged issues with their filings.

Justice Matthias Dawodu ruled to strike out the contested motion, noting that the claimant’s counsel had no objections. The case has now been adjourned to January 23, 2025, for the hearing of the preliminary objections. A related case involving Falz and VeryDarkMan was also adjourned on similar grounds.
