Chidinma Ojukwu testifies in the Lagos High Court, describing the discovery of Usifo Ataga's body in a Lekki apartment. She details their relationship, the events leading up to his death, and the actions she took afterward. The trial continues on April 28, 2025, with more testimonies to follow.
Chidinma Ojukwu, the primary suspect in the murder of Super TV CEO Michael Usifo Ataga, took the stand in a Lagos High Court on Thursday, offering a detailed account of how she discovered his lifeless body in a Lekki apartment on June 15, 2021.
According to Chidinma, she had stepped out to buy food and drinks but returned to find the apartment door unresponsive to her knocks. When she pushed it open, she was confronted with bloodstains on the floor and Ataga lying dead in a pool of blood. Chidinma immediately checked for signs of life but found none.
She explained that her relationship with Ataga had started in late 2020. Ataga had been supportive, paying for her school fees and assisting with her business. The two had met through a mutual friend and developed a personal connection. Chidinma testified that, prior to the tragic incident, Ataga had invited her to spend time with him in a short-let apartment in Lekki, as his house in Victoria Garden City was undergoing renovations.
On the day of the murder, she described running errands for Ataga, including purchasing cannabis and sedatives. When she returned to the apartment after her food run, she found Ataga's body. In a state of panic, she took his documents, some jewelry, and left the scene.
The court has adjourned the trial to April 28, 2025, for further testimony and continuation of proceedings.
