Nigeria Custody Battle: Davido Drags Sophia Momodu to Court Over Daughter Imade

International award-winning singer Davido has taken legal action against Sophia Momodu, seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade. Filed at the Lagos State High Court, Davido's suit requests either shared custody or unrestricted access to Imade, amidst ongoing disputes over her upbringing and financial support.

International award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken legal action against Sophia Momodu, seeking custody of their daughter, Imade.

The legal motion, filed by his lawyers at the Lagos State High Court, requests joint custody or, alternatively, unrestricted access to his daughter. Davido argues that he has been financially responsible for Imade’s education, housing, and overall welfare.

He claims to have offered Momodu a N200 million apartment, which she rejected, preferring an annual rent of N5 million for a different property.

Davido also provided a Range Rover SUV for their daughter's transportation needs and later an additional Highlander SUV, along with N5.8 million for repairs.

Despite these provisions, he alleges Momodu continues to make unreasonable demands, including $800 monthly for a nanny. He expressed frustration over what he describes as Momodu’s efforts to obstruct his relationship with Imade, despite his substantial contributions to her well-being.

In 2021, Sophia revealed her disappointment that Imade bears Davido's surname instead of hers. She shared on social media that her mother advised her to accept the situation, emphasizing the benefits Imade would receive from her father's lineage and inheritance. This ongoing conflict has seen both parties at odds over their daughter’s upbringing and the extent of Davido’s involvement.

Davido's legal move underscores his commitment to playing an active role in his daughter's life and ensuring her needs are met, despite the strained relationship with Momodu.

The court's decision will determine the future custodial arrangements for Imade and potentially set a precedent for similar cases involving high-profile personalities.
