On Tuesday, a Dana Air flight skidded off the runway at Lagos airport, prompting the diversion of other flights to the international airport. The incident involved a Dana Air aircraft with registration number 5N BKI, which had flown from Abuja to Lagos. Dana Air confirmed the event, stating that all 83 passengers and crew onboard were safely disembarked without injuries.
The airline promptly notified the relevant authorities and grounded the aircraft for further investigation. Passengers' safety remained the company's priority, with reassurances of full cooperation in the investigation. Additionally, a passenger on another airline reported their flight's diversion due to the Dana Air incident.
This occurrence comes six months after reports of an aircraft engine explosion and regulatory infractions leading to Dana Air's suspension by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in July 2022. Dana Air denied the explosion, citing operational challenges, and resumed operations after a five-month suspension.
