Aliko Dangote plans to build Nigeria’s largest seaport in Ogun State and expand cement production with a 6Mta plant in Itori. The investment revival follows Governor Dapo Abiodun’s investor-friendly policies. Ogun State is set to become Africa’s top cement producer, strengthening its position as Nigeria’s manufacturing hub.
Africa’s leading industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to construct Nigeria’s largest seaport in Ogun State, citing the investor-friendly policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun. He also revealed the expansion of his cement production capacity, with two new lines in Itori adding 6 million metric tons per annum (Mta) to the state's output.
During a meeting with the Ogun State Executive Council, Dangote explained that his company had previously abandoned the Olokola Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ) project but has now revived its investment plans. He emphasized Ogun’s position as Nigeria’s manufacturing hub and pledged collaboration with the state government.
Dangote further disclosed that the ongoing expansion at the Itori and Ibeshe cement plants would bring Ogun State’s total cement production to 18 Mta, making it the highest-producing region in Africa. With contributions from other manufacturers, Ogun is poised to lead cement output across the continent.
Highlighting the economic impact of his ventures, Dangote stated that Dangote Cement is Africa’s top producer with a 52 Mta capacity, 70% of which is in Nigeria. He also noted that his refinery in Lagos is meeting Nigeria’s domestic fuel demand, reducing imports.
Governor Abiodun welcomed Dangote’s return, commending his investment in Ogun’s economy and commitment to corporate social responsibility. The governor also praised the company's efforts in infrastructure development, particularly the Papalanto concrete-paved road project under the federal government’s tax credit scheme.
